2026 Handbook0 credit pointsLevel 6Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Last checked: 23 Aug 2026 UTCOverview
This unit explores the theory and practice of the supply of energy, energy management and auditing, and the design of sustainable energy facilities. It deals with the systems needed to create low-energy, sustainable buildings, including passive solar design, energy-efficient heating and air-conditioning, and combined heat and power. In addition, it includes coverage of transport energy and energy economics. Case studies from a variety of energy-focused industries such as building services, environmental engineering, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and architectural technology will be discussed.

The Handbook lists an examination for this unit.
| # | Assessment | Type | Weight | Hurdle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Assignments | Exercise | 20% | Threshold |
| 2 | Group project | Project | 20% | Threshold |
| 3 | Final assessment | Examination | 60% | Threshold |
Continuous assessment: 40% Final assessment: 60% Final grades: PGO (pass grade only) or NGO (fail) This unit contains threshold hurdle requirements that you must achieve to be able to pass the unit. You are required to achieve at least 45% in the total continuous assessment component and at least 45% in the final assessment component. The consequence of not achieving a hurdle requirement is a fail grade (NGO).
