Overview

This unit explores workforce sustainability and performance in contemporary human resource management. It provides relevant theories and frameworks to understand how organisations can sustainably engage with people in times of uncertainty and change. You will gain knowledge and skills to develop your capacities to become innovative future-ready managers who are able to reflect on current and emerging human resource challenges and opportunities and apply people management knowledge to complex organisational issues to contribute to workforce sustainability and performance.

Learning outcomes

  1. demonstrate an understanding of workforce sustainability and performance challenges and opportunities for organisations
  2. critically analyse and evaluate HRM’s contribution to organisational performance and workforce sustainability by enhancing competitive advantage, employee wellbeing, and societal outcomes in times of uncertainty and change
  3. develop the knowledge and skills to improve HRM’s contribution to the sustainability of the workforce and organisational performance.
  4. demonstrate knowledge or skills for crafting sustainable futures for people, organisations, communities, and/or the environment.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
