Overview

European business and society is an intensive three-week unit taught at the Monash Prato Campus in Italy. The unit incorporates presentations/lectures and organisational visits in Italy, which will enable you to better understand the political, economic and social environment for business operating in a European context. The unit covers topics such as: macro factors related to the Italian and European Union (EU) contexts; contemporary issues and debates impacting European society; working across cultures; and micro challenges of effectively managing people in a European environment.

Learning outcomes

  1. examine and critically analyse the nature of European social issues and debates, and understand their implications for policy and practice in business and society
  2. develop insights on how to manage effectively across cultures
  3. utilise knowledge gained from your time in Italy and/or organisational visits to develop insights into sustainable value generation for business and society in a European context
  4. demonstrate knowledge or skills for crafting sustainable futures for people, organisations, communities, and/or the environment.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
