Overview

This unit introduces you to the foundational knowledge for practice as a midwife. You will develop knowledge and skills to effectively care for women and their babies from preconception to the early postnatal period, and every stage in between. You will explore the fundamental midwifery knowledge, skills and cultural considerations required for contemporary midwifery practice in a variety of settings. Your learning will also focus on the physiological and psychosocial adaptation of the woman and the newborn. You will be able to apply this knowledge to the provision of woman-centred midwifery care on your first midwifery clinical placement.
