The unit is focused on developing confidence and capacity to make a positive impact on society through participating in, and leading, volunteering activities. It will focus on exploring conceptual frameworks and ideas that relate to volunteering work, while also exploring ways to apply these in practice.

Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate understanding of the varied nature of volunteering and its contributions to the social, political, and economic life of the Australian community.
- Demonstrate understanding of the volunteer/not-for-profit sector and its connections and contributions to the local, national, and international community.
- Demonstrate understanding of ethical and regulatory issues relevant to volunteering and the volunteer/not-for-profit sector.
- Critically reflect on the role of volunteering in contributing to the development and expression of personal and professional identity.
- Identify and apply appropriate conceptual tools in volunteering/not-for-profit sector settings.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of asynchronous learning activities and independent study. (Minimum 24 hours placement).
