Psychosocial effects of work on individuals are explained from a preventive viewpoint. You will examine topics including mental health and its effect on employment, alcohol and drug use, disability discrimination, equal employment opportunity legislation, workplace health promotion and shift work.

Learning outcomes
- Identify common psychosocial hazards and risks in the work environment and impacts on health;
- Reflect critically on theoretical models of job design and organisational psychology;
- Apply legislation relevant to the psychosocial work environment;
- Apply the risk management process to assess and control work-related stress;
- Communicate fluently using appropriate terminology to describe psychosocial hazards and risks and their prevention and control;
- Develop insightful and persuasive evidence-based recommendations to prevent, eliminate or reduce work-related stress and improve workplace culture and practice.
Workload
6 hours self-directed study/learning per week, plus 4 hours teacher directed learning per week, plus attendance at 3 on-campus block days.
