Building on the awareness of the complex and diverse perspectives on environmental, societal and governance issues in MSI5120, this unit introduces principles of effective communication and collaboration for working with diverse stakeholders to address complex sustainability issues. These include strategies for interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral work, negotiation, and persuasion. The unit also supports you in developing a critical awareness of your own position and perspective on sustainability, how this will influence your practice, and how this may evolve in your career. The unit draws on practitioner insights and examples to illustrate the many challenges and opportunities that come from engaging in this space.

Learning outcomes
- Conduct research to analyse the perspective of a specific sustainability stakeholder, considering their motivations, challenges, and approaches to environmental, social, and governance issues;
- Recognise the complex economic, regulatory and policy regimes that stakeholders influence and are shaped by;
- Use interdisciplinary approaches to evaluate the implications of diverse stakeholder perspectives on sustainability challenges;
- Construct persuasive arguments and apply negotiation techniques based on a specific stakeholder's viewpoint on a complex sustainability issue;
Workload
This unit will be delivered over a period of 6 weeks. This will include independent self-paced work on online materials and assignments across the teaching period. It will also include synchronous (live) classes. These will be four 2-hour online evening workshops, and one 2-day on-campus intensive (16 hours in total). The combination of classes and independent work will total 144 hours.
