This unit enables you to work on specifically-designed mathematical content, not otherwise covered in the other units offered in the masters of the School of Mathematics. This work can be individual or in small groups, and could, for example, correspond to supervised reading based on books/articles, or to more regular coursework based, for example, on subjects offered in the AMSI Summer School or ACE units.

Workload
As determined by the Subject assessment panel in each case; typical workloads could be: • For a project-based format: 1 hour meeting with the supervisor per week, and 13 hours of personal/group work per week. • For a semester-long unit-based format (e.g. ACE unit): 3 hours of lecture per week, 1h of applied class per week, 10h of personal work per week. • For an intensive format (e.g. Summer School unit, over 4 weeks): 6h of lecture per week, 2h of applied class per week, 34h of personal work per week.
