Overview

This unit will provide you with a clinical risk management framework for managing and preventing wounds. This unit will explore the evidential basis for prevention strategies for wounds such as skin tears, leg ulcers, diabetes-related foot wounds and pressure injuries. You will not only explore patient related issues associated with prevention but also examine the local environment and organisational factors that influence prevention in both the hospital and community setting.

Learning outcomes

  1. Examine quality assurance processes, inclusive of risk managment frameworks, in relation wound care in various environments.
  2. Interpret the effectiveness of existing practice guidelines in the identifcation, management and prevention of wounds.
  3. Distinguish the relevance of "auditing tools" in the quality assurance process of wound manangment to identify deficits in practice.
  4. Appraise how advocacy and ethical issues impact on quality assurance process in wound managment.
  5. Communicate with a variety of audiences, the various stages of the quality assurance process and justify the impact on wound management. .

Workload

In this unit you will have the opportunity to explore comprehensive quality assurance processes and risk management frameworks as they apply to wound care across diverse healthcare environments. Learning opportunities will enable you to critically interpret the effectiveness of existing practice guidelines in wound identification, management and prevention, while developing skills to distinguish the relevance and application of various auditing tools in quality assurance processes. You will examine how these tools can identify practice deficits and drive improvements in wound management outcomes. This knowledge will prepare you to appraise the complex interplay between advocacy and ethical issues within quality assurance frameworks, ensuring patient-centered care remains at the forefront of practice improvement initiatives. The unit will also develop your ability to justify and communicate the various stages of quality assurance processes to diverse audiences, demonstrating the direct impact these processes have on wound management outcomes and patient care quality.
