This unit will introduce you to health and nursing in regional, rural and remote areas. You will examine the social determinants of health and how these may influence health outcomes for people living in regional, rural and remote areas. You will also explore interventions and approaches aimed at improving health equity, justice and access, and the role of the nurse in working in multidisciplinary teams in these areas.

Learning outcomes
- Identify the differences between regional, rural and remote health-care while examining the population and health indicators for these same areas.
- Examine the social determinants of health and how these affect health outcomes in regional, rural and/or remote areas.
- Explain the concepts of equity, justice and access to healthcare for people living in regional, rural and/or remote communities and how these impact health outcomes.
- Outline interventions and approaches aimed at reducing inequitable health outcomes for people living in regional, rural and/or remote areas.
- Describe the role of the nurse in working with multidisciplinary healthcare teams in regional, rural and remote areas.
Workload
