Overview

This unit introduces you to the concepts of health, wellbeing, the prevention of disease and illness as they relate to planetary, global and public health. You will develop a critical understanding regarding planetary, global and public health, social and environmental impacts on the health of people, health promotion and health screening. Within this unit, you will continue to build your evidence-based practice and research skills to better understand these concepts and particularly those that impact on planetary health. These concepts of planetary, global and public health challenges, will be explored in the context of your nursing practice.

Learning outcomes

  1. Explain the concepts of planetary, global and public health.
  2. Critically analyse the impact of globalisation on human health.
  3. Determine and evaluate the impact of social determinants on health for healthcare delivery.
  4. Examine and critically analyse health care systems within a global context to distinguish differences in health care delivery.
  5. Critically appraise the role of health promotion and population screening in healthcare delivery.
  6. Critically apply literacy skills and evidence-based research to justify how planetary, global and public health impacts healthcare delivery.

Workload

12 hours per week of teacher facilitated and self-directed learning including tutorials, simulations and online activities. Please refer to Moodle for tutorial types and requirements.
