Overview

Cardiac nursing requires specialised knowledge and advanced clinical skills essential to work in a variety of specialist cardiac settings. In this unit you will develop a comprehensive knowledge of the pathophysiology, epidemiology, assessment and management of patients with cardiovascular disease, associated respiratory conditions and comorbidities. This unit will enable you to develop specialist cardiac nursing knowledge and clinical skills to provide comprehensive person-centred, evidence-based care. You will also further develop your teamwork and leadership skills in the practice of cardiac nursing.

Learning outcomes

  1. Practice professionally at a minimum standard in accordance with the Practice Standards for Australian Cardiovascular Nursing
  2. Apply knowledge of pathophysiology to the nursing management of patients with cardiovascular disease
  3. Analyse cardiovascular risk factors for diverse populations.
  4. Identify and interpret assessment data to prioritise therapeutic interventions for patients experiencing cardiovascular disease
  5. Formulate and implement complex care provided to a patient with cardiovascular disease and evaluate outcomes.
  6. Apply evidence-based practice in the provision of cardiac nursing care.
  7. Appraise how teamwork and leadership skills can support the role of the cardiac nurse.

Workload

24 hours per week of teacher facilitated and self directed study, including tutorials and online activities. Please refer to Moodle for tutorial types and requirements.
