Overview

This unit forms the core element of Theme 4 – Research and Practice in Nutrition, building on knowledge and skills drawn from Theme 1, 2 and 3. In this unit, you will learn the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct an applied research project in the area of human nutrition. Your learning within this unit will cover a comprehensive range of topics, including research methodologies, data collection and analysis, and the application of research findings to practical nutritional problems. Throughout the unit, you will engage in hands-on projects stimulating real-world research scenarios. By the end of the unit, you will have developed a thorough understanding of the research process in nutrition and be well-prepared to contribute to the field through your own research endeavours.

Learning outcomes

  1. Justify theoretical knowledge and skills in designing a contemporary research project.
  2. Rationalise the choice of research methods implemented in a particular research project.
  3. Examine ethical requirements when conducting research.
  4. Analyse and interpret research data in accordance with accepted research standards for various settings.
  5. Evaluate research findings based on currently available scientific evidence.
  6. Communicate research project in various formats to a variety of audiences.
  7. Synthesis new knowledge gained from research project and apply to professional practice.
  8. Practice effective professional performance by applying research skills to communication, problem-solving and teamwork.

Workload

3 hours of lecture / week, 3 hours of workshop / week, 8 hours of seminar Applied sessions for 10 weeks, with 16 hours of commitment every week. 18 hours per week of self-directed study. Total per week = 36 hours
