Overview

This is the second unit of the occupational therapy intervention units. It comprises 10 weeks of integrated scenario-based learning. In this unit, you further describe, apply and critique the principles of assessment and intervention for individual and groups of clients who are restricted in their ability to engage activities, occupations, and participation in community life. Intervention principles will also incorporate environmental supports and barriers (advocacy, organisational change, environmental adaptation) and evidence-based practice.

Learning outcomes

  1. Critically evaluate and make changes to your professional behaviour and collaborative relationship skills in group learning contexts based on constructive feedback from peers and tutors.
  2. Critically examine and apply occupational therapy models and practice process frameworks, as the basis for occupational therapy practice.
  3. Develop and implement occupational therapy interventions for individuals with complex needs, that is person and family centred, evidence-based, and appraises the influence of contextual and cultural factors.
  4. Justify your professional reasoning for the choice of occupational therapy interventions, based on a critical appraisal of evidence-based literature.
  5. Prioritise capacity and capability to enable occupational participation for individuals with complex needs.
  6. Design, facilitate and evaluate occupational therapy group interventions, and justify your professional reasoning based on group theory and evidence-based literature.
