Last checked: 23 Aug 2026 UTCOverview
In this unit you will transition along the continuum from observer to practitioner in clinical emergency out-of-hospital, community and hospital settings with placements at agencies relevant to year two units of study. Through these placements you will have the opportunity to practice and develop your clinical and communication skills in the assessment and management of patients whilst under the supervision of approved and experienced practitioners. In addition to placements, you will complete immersive simulation days. You will build on the model of paramedic clinical competence you have developed in prerequisite units and will provide you the context to support the development of your knowledge and skills necessary for effective patient focused care. You will also enhance self-care and reflection of self and others, strategies that will challenge you to consider all aspects of paramedic practice. Finally, tutorials/workshops will provide you with an opportunity to discuss and examine societal issues such as drug/alcohol abuse, homelessness, mental health, and family violence and how these intersect and impact patient health and well-being. You will also participate in practical debriefing sessions and explore how prejudices can impact their behaviour and patient care.
