Overview

This unit acts as a consistent thread throughout your Master of Paramedic Practitioner program. The unit houses of your competency assessments for the Paramedic Practitioner qualification, fostering your ability to seamlessly integrate theoretical knowledge with real-world clinical applications. This unit stands as the touchstone for essential workplace evaluations. The companion Moodle site will connect you with all Master of Paramedic Practitioner students, fostering a collaborative environment to exchange insights, experiences, and challenges via discussion forums with each other. Moreover, it provides you a direct communication channel to the Paramedic Practitioner stream leader, ensuring guidance and mentorship remain uninterrupted, even during course units facilitated by adjunct faculty.

Learning outcomes

  1. Appraise and apply the principles of leadership and mentorship and apply these in your role as an advanced practitioner.
  2. Explain the importance of critical reflection and reflexivity for professional development in your role as an advanced practitioner.
  3. Evaluate how professional communication, collaboration and networking impact the transition to advanced practice roles.
  4. Justify the need for high level problem solving, and clinical decision making in an advanced practice role.
  5. Develop advanced skills and knowledge in medication management, health assessment, and diagnosis.
  6. Defend how your collaborative interprofessional practice impacts on patient outcomes.
  7. Employ evidence-based practice in your advanced practice role.
  8. Construct and defend contemporary evidence associated with advanced practice capabilities in your nominated role.
  9. Appraise ethical and medico-legal issues associated with your role as an advanced practitioner and analyse how these relate to service delivery.

Workload

Compulsory work-integrated learning: Equivalent to 4 hours a week for 75 weeks for professional skill development and portfolio work-integrated learning activities during profession placement. Interacting with course materials and completion of assessments: Moodle asynchronous online learning activities, synchronous support sessions and completing assessment tasks equivalent to 1 hours a week for 75 weeks.
