In this unit, you are asked to think about the vast and growing inequities in health that exist across the world. You will examine major global health challenges such as disasters, child marriage, gender violence, food security, the health of women and children, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and you will explore some of the underlying causes including globalisation, trade and climate change. You will also explore global strategies that are addressing these challenges such as the ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ (SDGs).

Learning outcomes
- Identify current and future global health challenges;
- Analyse the complex underlying causes of global health challenges;
- Critique initiatives to address global health challenges including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
- Outline the role of aid and key global health actors.
