PRM2201 · Printmaking: Photographic techniques and transformations
2026 Handbook6 credit pointsLevel 2Department of Fine Art
Last checked: 23 Aug 2026 UTCOverview
This studio-based unit explores printmaking methods that incorporate photographically derived imagery in the context of contemporary art. You engage with projects that include laser-cut woodblock printing, photo-etching with copper plates, photopolymer relief printing, and photocopy transfer printmaking. The unit presents projects through which you explore relationships between the tradition of the fine art print and the photographic image expanded beyond standard dark-room and digital photography. By hand-printing with manually applied inks, and through making plates that can be potentially printed repeatedly on fine art papers, you are given the opportunity to rethink the notion of the photograph and printmaking.
