Overview

This unit will deepen your understanding and expertise in addressing complex mental health issues. Consolidating learning from prior units, it integrates advanced assessment and intervention approaches with a strong emphasis on case formulation, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based practice. You will critically engage with complex client presentations, consider various psychological and contextual factors, and reflect on your professional growth. Through experiential learning and the development of a personalised professional development plan, you will enhance your capacity to apply advanced treatment approaches in real-world settings as an adaptive, resourceful, and compassionate clinical psychologist.

Learning outcomes

1. Develop case formulations for complex presentations using relevant psychological theories to guide clinical decision-making
2. Analyse assessment data and approaches, considering cognitive, behavioural, and contextual factors
3. Design and justify evidence-based treatment plans informed by assessment and theory, and sensitive to the client’s socio-cultural context.
4. Apply and adapt advanced assessment and intervention techniques across diverse settings and populations.
5. Reflect on and evaluate professional development needs to support ongoing growth as a clinical psychologist.

Workload

Twelve seminars of three hours each for a total of 36 hours Preparation / self-directed study: One hour per week for seminars, and twelve hours total preparation for assessment tasks.
