Overview

You will be introduced to general principles of adult psychological assessment. You will learn how to apply a range of cognitive, behavioural and personality assessment techniques. You will be exposed to a range of different tests and scales and will learn how to administer, score and interpret them. You will learn how to formulate psychological assessment findings and communicate this information to a range of stakeholders. Furthermore, important aspects of assessment including psychometric, ethical and cultural issues will be covered.

Learning outcomes

  1. Explain and apply the fundamental components of the psychological assessment process.
  2. Select cognitive, personality, and behavioural assessment tools and methods appropriate for individual referrals and administer such assessments in a standardised manner.
  3. Score and interpret data from cognitive and personality assessment instruments correctly.
  4. Generate case formulations of psychological and cognitive presentations based on available sources of information.
  5. Communicate assessment findings to a range of stakeholders through report writing and other mediums.

Workload

Three hours of seminars per week for a total of 36 hours. Two workshops of seven hours for a total of 14 hours. Preparation / self-directed study: One hour per week for seminars and twelve hours preparation for assessment tasks.
