Overview

This unit extends your foundational knowledge and skills in CBT and generic therapeutic processes to evidence-based interventions for specific clinical presentations including anxiety disorders and trauma, eating disorders, psychosis, and sleep disorders. The unit also introduces you to family therapy principles and systems-based interventions to prepare you to deliver evidence-based therapies to children, parents and families.

Learning outcomes

  1. Differentiate the evidence-informed interventions for specific clinical presentations
  2. Deliver key cognitive and behavioural interventions that relate to the client’s presentation, socio-cultural context, and goals
  3. Formulate cognitive conceptualisations and treatment plans for a child or adolescent that is reflective of their systemic-context
  4. Describe evidence-informed interventions and processes for working with parents to support the mental health of their child or adolescent
  5. Manage multiple people, and their different emotional experiences, in the therapeutic environment with warmth and curiosity
  6. Engage in reflective practice of therapeutic style and skill development

Workload

12 seminars of 3 hours for a total of 36 hours. Preparation / self-directed study: 1 hour per week to prepare for or apply learning from the seminars and 12 hours preparation for assessment tasks.
