Overview

This unit is designed to cultivate an understanding of principles of neuropsychological rehabilitation, and to begin to develop relevant core competencies. The purpose of this unit is to build upon developed neuropsychological assessment skills and explore further what neuropsychology can offer, in an intervention and rehabilitation framework. You will also have the opportunity to refine your approach in critically appraising rehabilitation studies and considering the application of science to practice. Within this unit, the principles of recovery and what neuropsychological rehabilitation involves will be discussed before addressing assessment and goal setting for rehabilitative purposes. How to operate within a multidisciplinary setting as a neuropsychologist, and how to work with the client’s ‘team’ will be covered. Intervention and rehabilitative approaches to support cognition and communication, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing in inpatient and community settings, across the lifespan, will be a central focus.
