Overview

This unit explores the rich history and practice of colour composition in painting. It will provide you with an in-depth engagement with a variety of colour strategies as well as the theories informing them. You will have the opportunity to develop technical and conceptual approaches to colour in a range of visual and creative practices.

Learning outcomes

  1. Establish a technical foundation for successful use of colour in creative practice;
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of colour theory and its practical uses in painting;
  3. Critically reflect on the place of colour in the field of historical and contemporary visual practices;
  4. Produce works that demonstrate a critical and creative understanding of colour appropriate to the concepts investigated.
