Overview

In this unit, you will focus on integrating the knowledge and skills learnt from the prior foundations, musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiorespiratory units into practice in preparation for the complexity that is commonly encountered in clinical practice. Differences in the role of the physiotherapy in emergency, acute, subacute and community settings are explored. The development of your clinical reasoning will encompass the differences in the role of physiotherapy in emergency, acute, subacute and community. The role of physiotherapy in a variety of areas of physiotherapy practice is explored including oncology, women's and men’s health, amputees, chronic pain, falls, and vestibular conditions. Biopsychosocial perspectives are analysed within complex presentations, including a focus on developing your cultural capability. Systematic literature review tasks are completed in response to a clinical question, in preparation for the capstone independent research project in the Doctor of Physiotherapy. The unit is comprised of two components: an on-campus workshop and simulation block, and off campus learning modules focused on the role of physiotherapy in imaging and domestic violence. Preparation activities precede the on-campus practical skills and simulation sessions, to ensure there are multiple opportunities for skills practice and feedback. A dedicated pre-clinical week will prepare you for the clinical placements that follow. Off campus modules are completed between clinical placement blocks.
