Positioning human health as a key consideration for city planning, this unit will develop knowledge at the intersection of public health, and the urban and territorial planning sectors. It will explore the factors and determinants central to developing cities planned and built with a focus on human and environmental health.

Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the human and environmental health dimensions in the practice and implementation of urban design;
- Critically reflect on the relationship between human and environmental health in urban design;
- Incorporate human and environmental health considerations in urban design frameworks and practice;
- Interpret legal and spatial codes and legislative standards that avoid risks to human and environmental health;
- Understand and apply the rules of occupational health and safety appropriate to the unit of study.
Workload
12 hours per week including 3 contact hours. The remaining 9 hours are to be used for self and group learning activities.
