This unit offers you practical experience in research, design analysis, and project development in real-world settings. You will utilise design theories and methodologies to identify and address spatial, environmental, or social challenges through site visits, observational studies, and community engagement. This course prioritises collaboration, interdisciplinary methodologies, and ethical considerations in design practice. The unit aims to create a dynamic and inclusive learning environment in which you can investigate the complexities of urban challenges while developing practical solutions with real-world social and environmental implications.

Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate capacity in evaluating concepts and practices of urban design policies within national and international settings;
- Link, analyse and critically reflect on key challenges and opportunities in urban design practices and policy making through field observations;
- Synthesise and link theoretical knowledge with experiences, observations and engagement from the field;
- Formulate propositional frameworks and policy solutions to address complex urban issues;
- Work collaboratively in a studio setting, incorporating feedback to refine and iterate design experiments toward a final proposal.
Workload
12 hours per week including 3 contact hours. The remaining 9 hours are to be used for self and group learning activities.
