This unit develops knowledge and experience of community engagement theory and techniques, social impact analysis, and the ability to address fundamental issues for diverse communities including Indigenous people. You will explore methods for deploying new communication technologies, innovative community consultation and conflict resolution strategies through proactive mediations and negotiations.

Learning outcomes
- Critically reflect on and describe key theories and concepts related to democratic participation, demonstrating a deep understanding of the theoretical foundations of participatory planning;
- Apply methods to assess the assets, issues and conflicts of different stakeholders, showcasing practical skills in community engagement across diverse communities, including Indigenous people;
- Integrate knowledge and skills related to community engagement strategies, including the deployment of communication technologies, innovative community consultation methods, and conflict resolution strategies to create comprehensive and effective engagement strategies;
- Effectively communicate community planning concepts and engagement strategies to diverse audiences, using oral, written, design, visual, and graphic communication formats;
- Reflect on the ethical dimensions of community engagement and its impact on diverse communities, including Indigenous people, and consider the implications for urban practice;
- Adapt to evolving community challenges, seek new knowledge, and engage in continuous self-directed learning.
