In the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), you will develop the knowledge and skills to practice as a professional engineer in one of the following branches of engineering: • Aerospace engineering* • Biomedical Engineering • Chemical engineering • Civil engineering • Environmental engineering* • Electrical and computer systems engineering • Materials engineering* • Mechanical engineering • Robotics and Mechatronics engineering • Software engineering * These specialisations are not available in Monash University Malaysia in 2026 Your studies commence with the common first year. Completion of the common first year will develop your foundational skills for engineering while you sample from the various branches of engineering. During this year, you will develop your skills and knowledge of fundamental engineering through the completion of practical hands-on design-and-build activities. At the conclusion of the first year, you will nominate your branch of engineering for further study. After specialising in the second year, you will develop an in-depth understanding of the knowledge, techniques, tools and resources appropriate for your branch of engineering, as well as skills and knowledge of the application of engineering methods required to conduct, design and manage engineering projects. Master's accelerated pathway (Clayton campus) The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) is also available in a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Master of Engineering accelerated double pathway. Designed for high-achieving students, this pathway option will allow you the opportunity to fast-track directly from the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) into the Master of Engineering. By attaining a weighted average mark of 65% by the end of level 2, you will qualify to use four electives during your Bachelor's to complete Master's-level units. Successful completion of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a minimum 65% average will enable direct entry to the Master of Engineering with only 24 credit points (half a year) of study to complete. You will graduate with both a Bachelor's Honours degree and an Expert Master's degree. Please note that the Master's accelerated pathway is only available for the following specialisations: • Engineering management • Renewable energy engineering • Smart manufacturing engineering
Structure
You must complete 192 credit points, comprising: - 30 credit points of Fundamental and design studies; - 18 credit points of Breadth studies; and - 144 credit points of Specialist studies. The structure of this course includes a common first year for all students which is represented by Part A. Fundamental and design studies and Part B. Breadth studies. - a maximum of 60 credit points of Level 1 units can be credited to the engineering course. - A minimum of 72 credit points must be completed in engineering studies at Levels 3, 4 or 5. You must satisfy the continuous professional development requirements which is Part D of your Specialist studies (See Professional Practice ENG0001 or ENG0002).
You must complete 30 credit points, comprising: - Fundamental studies (12 credit points); and - Design studies (18 credit points).
You must complete 18 credit points, comprising: - Foundational studies and/or elective studies (12 credit points); and - First year breadth studies (6 credit points). Note: Your 12 credit points of foundational or elective studies will depend on the whether you have completed physics and/or specialist mathematics as part of your year 12 studies. Engineering single degree: You must complete one unit (6 credit points) from the First Year engineering breadth study list and two free open electives (total of 12 credit points). If you are required to complete one or two foundational studies units, these will be taken in place of your free open electives. If no foundational studies units are required, your free open electives may be chosen from either the First Year engineering breadth study list or from across the University, subject to meeting the unit enrolment rules. Engineering double degrees: The double degrees course structure does not include 12 credit points of free open electives in Part B. You must complete one unit (6 credit points) from the First Year engineering breadth study list. If a foundational studies unit is required, it will be undertaken in place of the First Year engineering breadth study unit. Where two foundational studies units are required, the second unit is additional to the course requirements, increasing the total credit points for the double degree by 6 credit points and requiring a study overload in Year 1 or Year 2.
You must complete Parts C, D and E of one of the specialisations from the list below, that is offered on your campus of study. Note 1: Aerospace Engineering and Environmental Engineering are not offered at Malaysia. Note 2: Please be aware that certain specialisations have specific engineering unit requirements to meet the accreditation standards set by the Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia (EAC) and/or the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). It is important to note these requirements and ensure that you complete the necessary engineering units for your chosen specialisation to satisfy the accreditation criteria.

An engineering minor will diversify your skill set and add versatility. If you are enrolled in the engineering single degree course, you can use your engineering electives in Years 2, 3 and 4 to complete a minor from a different engineering discipline. While most specialisations have complementary combinations with minors, it should be noted that the Biomedical Engineering and Software Engineering specialisations currently do not offer any options to pursue a minor. Minors are also not available in the engineering double-degrees.
