WAM / GPA calculator

Type a unit code and the credit points and level come from the Handbook, so the weighting is right without you having to remember it. Malaysia is scored on CGPA, which is a different scale.

Units counted

0

Rows with credit points and a mark or grade.

What do I need this semester?

The same mark in every planned unit that would get you to the target, given everything above.

You need 70.0 in each of them to reach a WAM of 70. (D)

Level weighting (WAM only)

First-year undergraduate units count 0.5; every other level counts 1.0. It is the level of the unit, not the year you take it — a Level 1 unit taken in third year still counts 0.5. GPA does not use this weighting at all.

The parts people get wrong

  • A fail counts, at its actual mark. Leaving it out flatters the result.
  • A withdrawn fail counts as zero and keeps its credit points in the divisor, which is what makes it expensive.
  • The 0.5 goes in the top and the bottom of the WAM. Halving only the top turns a 90 into a 45.
  • Monash rounds the final mark first, so 79.51 is an 80 and a High distinction.
  • These grades count for neither average: SFR, NE, NAS, WI, PGO, NPGO, WNGO.
