If you have a disability or medical condition, you may be able to complete your assessments with alternative arrangements, such as:

  • extra time
  • rest/movement breaks
  • specialised technical equipment or furniture.

Eligibility

To be eligible for alternative arrangements, you need to register with Disability Support Services (DSS). DSS will make an assessment and provide some recommendations based on your condition. The assessment process can take some time, so it’s a good idea to register as early as possible.

Check the registration deadlines

If you need alternative assessment arrangements for your semester one final assessments, make sure you register with DSS by the relevant deadline:

If you’re looking for alternative arrangements for in-semester assessments or other teaching periods, register as soon as possible.

If you're granted alternative assessment arrangements, you can still apply for special consideration to defer your assessment if you’re unable to attempt or complete it due to exceptional circumstances.

Assessment location

All students need to sit their final assessments in the format and location that has been scheduled. This means if the scheduled location for your unit’s final assessment is on campus, you need to attend your assessment in person at Clayton (or Malaysia) campus.

Make sure you plan ahead and avoid booking a trip during the final assessment period, because you won’t be eligible for an online exam or special consideration if you’re away on holiday or travelling.

Alternative arrangements

Additional working time

If you're granted extra time:

  • we'll confirm the details by email one to two weeks before the start of the final assessment period
  • the additional working time will be added to your assessment duration. For eExams, your on-screen timer will include your additional working time.

Rest/movement breaks

If you have a timed assessment, you could be granted time for rest and/or movement as part of your DSS arrangements. If you're eligible, you’ll receive an email about these arrangements once you’ve registered with DSS.

eExams

If your arrangements include rest/movement breaks for an eExam, there are a few things you need to know:

  • You can decide when to take your rest breaks, but we recommend you don’t take a rest break in the last 10 minutes of your exam to avoid your exam time running out.
  • During your break, you're not allowed to access any exam material or continue working on your exam.
  • If you’re sitting your eExam on campus: You may move away from your desk to the designated supervised AAA rest break area during your break. If you’re sitting a recorded eExam from home: You must stay in view of the camera. If you’re sitting an unsupervised eExam from home: You still need to use the Start rest break button. You're expected to remain under exam conditions while you take your rest break.
  • To take a rest break once your exam has started:Your remaining rest time will be visible on the left of your screen under the Start rest break button.

Department-run assessments (e.g Moodle quiz)

Speak with your teaching staff to confirm how your allocated rest time will be managed.

Alternative exam space requirements

If Disability Support Services considers it necessary for you to have an alternative exam room set up, your requirements will be communicated to the central assessment team (Online Assessment & Integrity Services) who will make the necessary arrangements. You’ll receive an email confirming your alternative arrangements one to two weeks before exams.

Confirming your alternative arrangements

If you have alternative assessment arrangements, we’ll send you an email with the details before your exam.

If you have any questions about your alternative assessment arrangements, speak with your Disability Adviser or book a Zoom chat with the eExam support team.
