Enrolment, re-enrolment and intermission

Changing your enrolment You can use the Web Enrolment System (WES) to add or withdraw from most units. Learn more about changing your enrolment here.

Re-enrolment To secure your spot, and to avoid having to pay late fees, please re-enrol before the closing date. It is important to enrol in your full enrolment load so that there are no delays in being able to register for tutorials. To ensure you re-enrol correctly, please familiarise yourself with your course progression requirements and unit information.

Intermission During your course, you may choose to apply for study leave. This can be taken over consecutive semesters or teaching periods, or at different times. You're required to complete your degree within a certain time frame, which includes any periods of study leave.

Waiving a prerequisite or corequisite

Enrolment requirements

Some Monash Business School units require you to successfully complete a different unit (a prerequisite unit) before you can enrol. This is to ensure you have sufficient background knowledge to understand the content and successfully pass the unit.

Other units may require you to take certain units at the same time (a corequisite unit).

If these requirements apply, they will be listed in the Handbook, and you will not be able to undertake the unit until the requirements are met.

Can I request a prerequisite or corequisite waiver?

You may be able to seek permission to have a prerequisite or corequisite waived, allowing you to enrol in a unit. You will need to demonstrate you've completed studies similar to the prerequisite or corequisite, or have relevant work experience, providing sufficient background knowledge to succeed in the unit.

How to apply

  1. Submit an Enrolment Amendment form to request a waiver including the following information:
  2. If eligible, Faculty staff will liaise with the Chief Examiner (or delegate) of the unit to confirm whether you are permitted to enrol in the unit. DO NOT submit your request directly to the Chief Examiner.
  3. Monash Business School staff will notify you of the outcome and, if approved, make any changes to your enrolment. Please note that units will not be added after the last day to enrol for the teaching period, so ensure your request is submitted as early as possible prior to the start of teaching.
  • The unit code for which you are seeking a prerequisite waiver
  • The unit code or other requirements which you are seeking to have waived
  • A clear explanation of why you need the prerequisite waived, and how you meet the prerequisites with similar studies or relevant experience
  • A copy of your academic record from another institution and/or relevant supporting documentation. Eg CV detailing relevant work experience if this is the basis of your request
  • The unit code for any unit you wish to have withdrawn if your request is approved.

NOTE: The following are NOT grounds to have prerequisites waived:

  • You failed the prerequisite and now need to extend your course.
  • You chose the wrong units or underloaded in a prior semester and have not yet completed the prerequisite.
  • You will need to underload in a future semester due to not having completed a prerequisite for a core unit (an underload would be approved in this scenario).

Study load

The standard undergraduate study load per year is 48 credit points (24 credit points per semester), however, you can apply to complete more or less.

Underload Underloading is to enrol in less than the standard number of units each year.

Overload Overloading is to enrol in more than the standard number of units in each year. It is usually limited to students who have completed 48 credit points in one calendar year and have achieved a 60% credit average or higher in the previous year.
