When will I be added to the CPD Moodle site?
Students are added to the ENG CPD Moodle site in their final semester of study.
How do I check that I am enrolled in the CPD unit?
To check if you are enrolled, go to the Web Enrolment System (WES), and look for ENG0001 (Undergraduate) or ENG0003 (Master of Professional Engineering) under your list of units. If you first enrolled in your CPD unit in the previous calendar year, you will need to refer to your ‘Unofficial academic transcript’ under ‘Course progression in WES’.
You will be automatically enrolled in the CPD unit in Moodle in your final semester of study. If you are in your final semester of study and you don’t see the CPD unit in Moodle, please request to be added via this google form.
Do I need to re-enrol in CPD every semester?
Students enrol themselves in their CPD unit with either their Final Year Project for undergraduate students or when Master of Professional Engineering students commence their course. Once you are enrolled you do not need to re-enrol every semester, your initial enrolment is valid for the duration of your degree.
Note: Your CPD is not due until week 5 of your final semester. So even though you are enrolled in the CPD unit on WES you will not be enrolled in the CPD unit on Moodle until your final semester of study.
When is my CPD due?
Your CPD is due 9:30am on Monday of Week 5 in your final semester of study.
You must:
- Complete your required CPD hours
- Log your activities with descriptions and any required reflections in your ePortfolio
- Submit the answers to the six CPD assessment questions in ePortfolio
- Select your CPD ePortfolio in your Moodle submission
What happens if I miss the deadline?
If you do not submit your CPD on time, your graduation will be delayed.
You will be given one additional semester to meet your CPD requirements and you will be enrolled in the next semester's CPD Moodle site. If you still do not submit by the following semester’s deadline, you will be discontinued from your course and must apply for reinstatement.
Completing your degree in Summer or Winter?
If you are finishing your course requirements in Summer or Winter, you must request access to the CPD Moodle site of the semester immediately prior to this teaching period by completing the Request to be added to the CPD Moodle site form.
When will I receive my CPD assessment outcome?
Provided you submitted your CPD on time, and you meet your CPD requirements, your results will be made available by the official results release date for the current semester.
Students will only receive feedback if the assessing academic needs additional documentation to finalise your CPD submission. Students are given 5 working days to provide updates.
How do I prove my enrolment status for a job application?
If you need to prove your enrolment status you can order an Enrolment Verification Letter from MoVA.
What letter can I provide an employer that explains my CPD requirements?
Students have two documents approved by the University that can be used in support of applications for internships.
There is a CPD requirement letter and evidence template that can be submitted for job applications, or to your employer, which outlines what your CPD requirements are, as well as a template for the format of any supporting documentation you require.
Students can also request a Student Letter ‘Enrolment Verification (good standing)’ through WES, which confirms that you are an enrolled Monash University Engineering student and you have achieved satisfactory academic progress.
Unfortunately it is not possible to sign third party documents not approved by the University.
I am in the Masters Accelerated Pathway – when do I need to do my CPD?
CPD is a required component of your Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree so you will need to complete CPD prior to starting your Masters course. That means your CPD will be due in the semester when you are taking your final undergraduate units.
Can I do my CPD experiences from abroad?
Yes, you can count experiences from any country - they don't have to happen in Australia, as long as they took place during the time you were enrolled in your Monash Engineering Degree. If you are an international student studying on a student visa you should be aware that completing an internship for CPD is not a valid reason to request intermission from study in semester 1 or 2. You can complete any full-time work experience during the summer or winter break.
Can I take a final exam off-campus if I am undertaking CPD activities?
No. Whilst all engineering Bachelor of Engineering (honours) and Master of Professional Engineering students have a requirement to undertake 420 hours of continuous professional development (that can be taken as an internship), it must be taken in such a way as to not impact assessments, including final exams.
What supporting documentation do I need to provide?
You must provide supporting documentation for any experience greater than 35 hours in length except in the following categories:
- Up to 70 hours of engineering curriculum (including ENG4801)
- Up to 115 hours for Undergraduate Industry Experience (ENG4803)
- Up to 115 hours for Graduate Industry Experience (ENG5008)
- Up to 115 hours for Co-op (ENG4804)
- Up to 600 hours for FIT4042 (Software IBL)
The supporting documents need to show:
- A description of your activities, including position title
- When the activity took place
- How many hours you participated in the activity
While supporting documentation is not required for individual experiences totaling less than 35 hours, you may still wish to provide evidence of your participation, especially if you’ve completed several shorter in-person or online activities.
- Links to online videos, workshops and seminars
- Certificates of attendance or achievement
- Event participation confirmations
This information will help demonstrate your engagement and strengthen your overall submission
There is a CPD work related evidence template you can provide your employer as well as a CPD student teams evidence template.
Supporting documents must be in English. If in a different language you must also include a NAATI certified translation.
How do I tell if my activity is Engineering-related?
Engineering-related activities are those that include some element of Engineering.
Questions to ask yourself to determine if your activity is Engineering-related:
- Is your activity being supervised by an engineer?
- Does your activity focus on engineering concepts that you are learning, applying or teaching?
- Is it being hosted by an Engineering firm?
- Are there presentations given by engineers, or engineers you are networking with?
- If it’s an Engineering Club activity, is there an engineering focus? (Purely social activities wouldn’t be considered Engineering-related.)
If you’re not sure if an activity is Engineering-related, then it probably isn’t. Keep in mind that you will need to justify how your experience was Engineering-related in your ePortfolio Collection.
How can I learn more about the new ePortfolio platform?
Student Academic Success provides students with videos to help students using ePortfolio.
There will be severe penalties for anyone caught falsifying claims on their CPD. Failure to supply accurate and honest details about the activities you have attended, the hours you spent at those activities, the skills you have developed, the experiences you were exposed to, or accurate contact details and supporting documentation for verification purposes, would put your graduation in jeopardy if you were suspended or excluded from the university. Monash University’s policy on Academic Integrity applies in each of those instances, and for all CPD submissions. Furthermore, as a future Engineer, you should be upholding the Engineers Australia Stage 1 competency of ethical conduct and personal accountability.
