About
To access Disability Support Services, you simply need to register with us. This helps us figure out what support you need to succeed in your studies.
Be assured, your registration and discussions with our advisers are private. We won't share your information without your permission.
Unsure if you can register?
We offer services to help students with all sorts of disabilities and conditions. If you’re not sure if you’re eligible for DSS, feel free to contact us.
Should I disclose my disability?
You don't have to disclose a disability or medical condition to the University. There are a few things to consider when deciding to disclose or not.
- If you do choose to disclose your disability and the impacts on your studies, we may be able to provide you with support.
- Even if you don't need support services, disclosing your disability when enrolling helps us develop accurate statistics about students with disabilities at Monash.
Available services
These services are offered to students by Disability Support Services. Keep in mind that registering with us doesn't provide automatic access to all services.
Depending on how you’re impacted, there may be additional support available to you. We recommend you contact a disability adviser about this.
Academic support workers
Support workers provide a range of services including note-taking during classes, writing for you during final assessments, and Auslan interpreting.
Accessible accommodation on campus
Clayton and Peninsula campuses have wheelchair-accessible accommodation options.
Alternative formatting
Learning materials essential to your course (eg textbooks and readings) can be provided as electronic text or Braille.
Alternative arrangements for final assessments
If eligible, you may be allowed extra time, rest breaks, someone to read or write for you, a computer and assistive technology, or a separate venue. Adjustments to assessment conditions are made to accommodate your individual circumstance. You should request alternative assessment arrangements as early as possible, as we may not be able to accommodate late requests.
Assistive technology
We can provide short-term loans of motorised scooters while on campus, hearing transmitters, portable hearing loop systems, and recording devices.
Graduate employment opportunities – GradWISE
Our partnership with GradWISE supports students with a disability with graduate employment opportunities.
Library services
Library staff can help you get items from the shelves, make photocopies or learn how to use library equipment.
Hearing augmentation
We have a detailed list of all hearing augmentation systems installed around the University.

You can book a resting room for a maximum of three hours. Disposable bedding is available.
