Graduates receive both a hard copy and digital version of their award certificate (testamur). For details, see how to receive your documents.
Certificate details
Hard copy certificates with conferral dates after 1 April 2025 will be provided in A3 format.
Details shown on your award certificate (testamur):
- your name
- your award title
- your specialisation (if applicable)
- conferral date (the date of your graduation round)
- possibly up to two majors (or extended majors), as outlined below
- the University seal.
About seven weeks before your graduation round, we'll ask you to check that your name and award title are correct.
- Up to two majors (or extended majors) will be included on your award certificate if you:Your award certificate will state you graduated with major(s) in (regardless of whether you completed a major or extended major).Monash University MalaysiaDue to local requirements, specialisations and majors for courses offered at Monash University Malaysia will not be included on the testamur, unless the specialisation or major is included in the course’s registration on the Malaysian qualifications register.
- Your award title may differ from your course title, depending on your specialisation.Here are some examples:
- Your legal name will appear the same as it does on your student record.Make sure to let us know the correct order of the parts of your name when you apply to graduate through the Graduation Portal.Once you’ve applied to graduate, you can make changes to your name up to 30 days before the start of your round through the portal. If you’d like to change more than just the order of your name (e.g. include a middle name, or use special characters that aren’t in the portal), you'll need to provide documentation, such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate, passport or divorce decree.Any changes you make to your name through your graduation application form will only be reflected on your award certificate (testamur). To change your name across our other systems, see changing your personal details.
- The following information does not appear on your award certificate:
- You can request a replacement certificate if the original is:You need to submit an application for a replacement testamur.You’ll be contacted within five University working days of submitting your application for a replacement testamur to confirm details, and emailed a tracking number when your replacement testamur is on its way.Destroyed (archives)Graduation documents that’ve been in the archive for more than seven years since the year of your conferral will be destroyed. You’ll then need to submit an application for a replacement testamur.Change of nameTo change the name on your certificate, before submitting your application for a replacement, follow the steps to change your personal information. Make sure you include appropriate documentation. For example, a marriage certificate.

Masters awarded with distinction
If you’re graduating after 7 July 2021 with a masters by coursework degree and you have a WAM of 80 or above, you’ll see awarded with distinction on your award certificate. This wording will remain the same for any WAM of or above 80 – regardless of the specific value.
Common uses
Graduates often frame and display their certificates in their place of business (e.g. doctor's office). This provides clients with printed evidence of your qualification to work in that field.
