The prepaid student card program has ended
It was available to eligible students during semester one 2026.
To make everyday campus life a little more affordable, eligible students were given up to $50 on a prepaid student card to spend on food, drinks and essentials at participating retailers.
An email was sent to the Monash accounts of eligible students with instructions to activate and use the card. See the Terms and Conditions of Use.
Who can access it
Eligible students would've received an email about card activation. Check the full eligibility criteria below.
When you’ll receive it
Your card was loaded with $25 on 13 April, with a further $25 automatically added on 20 April.
How long is it valid
The card is valid until 13 April 2029.
Eligibility
You were eligible for a prepaid student card if you met the following criteria during the eligibility period (13–20 April 2026):
- were studying at an Australian campus (including Monash College)
- had started your undergraduate, graduate or research degree
- were enrolled in at least one unit in 2026, and
- were not on intermission (study leave) or deferral.
How it works
Set up your card
Check your balance
Follow the steps to provision your prepaid student card.
Step 1: Check your Monash email
Click the activation link in the email (subject line: Your $50 prepaid student card is here) – you’ll be taken to the Activate Prepaid Student Card screen.
Enter your mobile phone number (all other fields will be pre-populated), review the terms and conditions, then press Request Digital Card.
Just make sure the mobile number you enter is correct, as this is where your card will be sent (only Australian mobile numbers will be accepted).
Step 2: Follow the link in the SMS
Once you’ve submitted the form, you’ll be sent an SMS with an activation code and a link to provision your card (it can take up to two hours to arrive).
Follow the link and prompts in the SMS to activate your card – you’ll need to enter your mobile number and the activation code provided in the SMS.
Step 3: Add the card to your mobile wallet
You’ll then see your card on the screen. Tap the Add to wallet button (below the card balance) to enable in-store and online purchases.

Step 4: Terms and conditions
When prompted, review the Terms & Conditions.
Step 5: Your card is ready to use
When you’re ready to make a purchase at a participating retailer, present your card through your phone wallet as you would for any usual tap and pay transaction. Ensure the card you’re using says Monash University.
To check your balance from your wallet:
- Open the prepaid student card in your device wallet.
- Tap the More (...) icon in the top right corner of the card screen.
- Select Card Details from the pop-up menu.
- On the details page, tap Open (next to Vault Payments).
- You’ll see your available balance on the screen. To view your transaction history from the past 30 days, tap Transactions.
