New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility Program funding has been awarded to Monash University by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) as part of a signature initiative that aims to lift the knowledge of the Indo-Pacific within Australia and to strengthen our people-to-people and institutional relationships.
The NCP Mobility Program Grant helps cover living expenses during your global mobility program. The grants are accessible to students participating in selected Global Study Tours or Language Intensive Programs to specific Indo-Pacific countries.
You do not need to apply for these grants. Your eligibility will be automatically assessed by Monash Abroad if you are accepted into a program with NCP Mobility Program funding.
A selection of undergraduate Global Study Tours and Language Intensive Programs are awarded NCP Mobility Program funding, with eligible programs updated annually. If you are participating in a Global Study Tour or Language Intensive Program, check the brochure page for details of funding offered or the unit coordinator will advise you if NCP funding is available.
All enquiries about Global Study Tour or Language Intensive Program should be directed to the faculty running the overseas unit. You can consult the unit's entry in the Monash Handbook for information about the academic staff coordinating the unit.
Eligibility
To be eligible for one of the grants, you must:
- be an Australian citizen;
- not be a citizen or permanent resident of the proposed host location/s while participating in the program;
- have been accepted by Monash Abroad for a NCP eligible Global Study Tour or Language Intensive Program;

- be able to receive credit for the overseas program or have it count towards the requirements of your enrolled course;

- not be an employee of the branch of DFAT or the contractor that administers the NCP;
- not, during the course of your undergraduate degree:
- for the eligible program, not be in receipt of the Monash Abroad grant, or another Monash funding offer where the terms prohibit you from holding the funding concurrently.

- participate in another offshore scholarship or overseas program while participating in an NCP funded program.
Assessment Criteria and timing of the payment
A limited number of grants up to $6,000 each are available to Monash University students for a selection of undergraduate Global Study Tours and Language Intensive Programs. These grants are awarded on the basis of the number of available grants.
If the number of available grants are less than the number of eligible students on a NCP funded program, students are selected on evaluation of their personal statement (if this was part of the program selection), on academic merit (the WAM in the student’s current degree at the time of being accepted into the program) and equity indicators.
Only successful recipients are notified by Monash Abroad if they are selected to receive a grant via email after they have been accepted into the Global Study Tour or Language Intensive Program. You must accept the grant and complete all the required Monash Abroad and DFAT requirements to receive payment.
When all these requirements are met, payment will be scheduled in the next available payment cycle. This is likely to occur approximately 4 weeks before your program start date.
