Before your ceremony

You’ll need to bring your:

  • student ID, to register for your ceremony and collect your tickets and academic dress
  • GOP9 Tenant ID card, if you're a Monash Indonesia campus student.
  • The graduation ceremony is held at the Fairmont Jakarta. Make sure you plan enough time for travel, parking, and ticket and gown collection. It's important that you're in your academic dress at least one hour before your ceremony begins.
  • If you don't show up for your ceremony, you will be graduated in absentia. If you arrive late, you may miss out on receiving your award on stage.

We'll email you about four weeks before graduation with more information about your ceremony.

Tickets and academic dress

On arrival, head to the Grand Ballroom Foyer for registration and ticketing.

Graduand seating is allocated. When you register, we’ll give you your tickets for you and your guests. Keep the section with your name and seat number. You have an allocated seat and you’ll need your ticket with you when you enter the hall.

Give the guest tickets to your guests. They will be admitted to the hall upon presentation of their ticket and can choose their own seat in the non-reserved areas.

After registration at the Grand Ballroom Foyer, you’ll be directed to collect your academic dress from the photography and gowning room. Purchased academic dress will also be available for collection from the same location. If you wish to buy your own academic dress, you need to place your order about six weeks before your ceremony.

A graduation ceremony is a formal occasion and you're encouraged to dress accordingly. The graduation gown is a three-quarter-length robe that drapes open at the front, so your clothes will be visible. If you wish to coordinate your clothing with your faculty colours, see faculty colours for academic dress.

You'll be wearing a hood with your academic gown, which drapes over your shoulders from front to back. We recommend you wear clothing with a button to secure the hood.

The cost of hiring your academic dress is included in the ceremony fee. The academic dress company will have a range of sizes available so you don't need to request a size in advance.

Returning your gown

You’ll need to return your academic dress to Ballroom 3 by the required time (see ceremony timelines).

The ceremony

Give all your personal belongings to your guests to take care of during the ceremony. This includes flowers, gifts, handbags, car keys, and any other personal items.

Guest seating

Your guests must be in their seats by the times in the table above. Doors to the hall will close 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony. This is when the academic procession will start and late guests may not be allowed to enter until a suitable break in proceedings.

The ceremony will run for approximately 90 minutes. Guests with young children or babies are encouraged to sit near the doors, so they can take them outside to settle if they become restless during the ceremony.
