Before your ceremony

We'll email you about seven weeks before graduation with more information about your ceremony.

Graduation services

To help capture and celebrate your graduation day, you may want to organise the following services.

If you’re a graduate or guest, you can enjoy a 20% discount at the following eateries:

Just make sure you have your wristband and show your graduation ticket or student ID on arrival. Terms and conditions apply for all discounts.

If you have any enquiries, send them directly to the companies.

On the day

On the day of your graduation, you’ll need to bring your:

  • mobile phone (you’ll need to scan a QR code to register your arrival and collect your gown)
  • student ID.
  • The graduation ceremony is held at the Sunway Resort Hotel. Make sure you plan enough time for travel, parking, and ticket and gown collection.It's important that you're in your academic dress and at your compulsory ceremony rehearsal at least one hour before your ceremony begins.
  • You may miss out on receiving your award on stage if you arrive late.If you don’t show up for your ceremony, you'll graduate in absentia.

Tickets

On arrival, go to the Congress Level 12 foyer and scan the QR code (from your e-ticket) that was sent to you for yourself and your guests.

Academic dress

Graduand dress code

Mortarboard (cap)

  • The mortarboard should be worn flat on your head, parallel to the ground.
  • The front edge of the cap should rest about an inch above your eyebrows.
  • Make sure the mortarboard is balanced and not tilting to one side.

Gown

  • The gown should fall evenly from your shoulders.
  • Remember to fasten any buttons or zippers (if present).

Attire

  • You can wear business attire, formal dress or the national dress of your home country if you prefer.
  • Choose comfortable and neat shoes.
  • Avoid overly casual or athletic footwear – your shoes may be visible when you walk across the stage.

Keep in mind that your graduation is a formal occasion, and appropriate attire reflects respect for the ceremony and its significance. Casual clothes such as jeans, shorts, pyjamas or t-shirts are not allowed.

Getting your academic dress

Once you have registered with your e-ticket, you’ll be directed to collect your hired academic dress from the same floor. The academic dress company will have a range of sizes, so you don't need to request a size in advance.

You won’t be able to purchase your academic dress for the April ceremony.

The ceremony

After registering and collecting your academic dress, head to Lagoon 2, Level 15 at least 40 minutes before the ceremony starts for a compulsory rehearsal. Have your seat allocation e-ticket with you at all times.

You’ll need to hand over all your personal belongings to your guests to take care of during the ceremony. This includes flowers, gifts, handbags, car keys, and any other personal items.

Guest seating

Your guests must be in their seats by the times in the table above. Doors to the hall will close 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony.

The ceremony will run for approximately two hours. Guests with young children or babies are encouraged to sit near the doors, so they can take them outside to settle if they become restless during the ceremony.

Special seating requirements

If you or your guests have any special seating requirements, including accessibility needs, let us know in your graduation application. If you’ve already submitted your application, you can email us at graduations@monash.edu.

If you need to borrow a wheelchair, you can contact Sunway Resort Hotel (Concierge) at +603 7492 8000 to request one.

Return your gown

You’ll need to return your academic dress by the time below.

Fees apply for late returns and damaged gowns.

Gown returns will be considered late after:

  • 4pm for the 10am ceremony
  • 9pm for the 3pm ceremony.

Collect your testamur (degree certificate)

You can collect your testamur from Grand Forum Lobby, Level 10, after you return your gown.

Graduation services will be available at the following locations:

Flowers and plaques/merchandise can be bought on the day, but you may prefer to book online to collect them from the above locations, as this will save you considerable time waiting in a queue.

You can book your photography session online to avoid waiting in a queue.
