The Faculty of Information Technology has revised its undergraduate courses for students commencing in 2027, and will introduce several new courses. Details of the changes to current courses are outlined below.
Bachelor of Information Technology (C2000) and related double degrees
The BIT has been revised for 2027, with changes to core units, majors and capstone projects. Continue with your chosen major - you may need to swap out some units for new ones as older structures are taught out. See the table below for details.
Majors no longer available from 2027:
- Business information systems (replaced by Business artificial intelligence systems)
- Applied cybersecurity (replaced by Cybersecurity)
Majors being revised for 2027:
- Games and immersive media (minor changes)
- Software development
New majors from 2027 (only available to students commencing the BIT in 2027):
- Agentic software engineering
- Artificial intelligence algorithms and models
- Applied artificial intelligence
- Business artificial intelligence systems
- Computer science
- Data science
Bachelor of Computer Science (C2001) and related double degrees
The BCS has been revised for 2027, with changes to core units and capstone projects, and minor changes to specialisation units.
Bachelor of Computer Science Advanced (Honours) (C3001)
From 2027, specialisations will no longer be offered in the BCSAdv(Hons). Students wanting to study outside computer science can do so through a major in another IT area, taken as free electives. The course structure and capstone projects have also been updated.
New practice units
A key part of the 2027 curriculum is the introduction of industry practice units - giving you a workplace-like learning experience where you contribute to real projects, products and services while building the professional, technical and collaborative skills you'll need for your course and career.
Capstone units are being updated to align with this new practice program. You'll have the opportunity to help establish the student-led companies at the heart of the program, while building a portfolio to show future employers what you can do.
The new structure will roll out progressively from 2027 as capstone units are replaced by practice units (see table below). Further guidance will be shared before next semester.

How this affects currently enrolled students
Continue following your existing course map. Some core units in your degree or major/specialisation may no longer be offered and will be replaced by new units - see below and outlined in your map.
Course and course version transfers
- Transferring into an IT Undergraduate Degree: If you receive an offer to transfer into a current IT undergraduate degree (C2000, C2001, C3001 or any double degree associated with these) later this year, your offer will specify which version of the degree and which course map to follow based on your credit and completed units.
- Moving to a 2027 course version: If you are enrolled in an existing IT UG degree and would like to move to the 2027 version (for example, to complete a new 2027 major), you will need to contact the Faculty to discuss your options.
- Transferring to a 2027 new degree: New 2027 courses will not be available for internal course transfer in semester 1 2027 as we will roll these out one year at a time.
