Industry (Capstone) placement unit

At the School of Business, we recognise the value of Work Integrated Learning as an essential component of your studies. There are two ways you can gain valuable first-hand experience in the workplace:

BEW3110 Work Experience Program – the industry placement unit that’s part of the Capstone portfolio, where you’ll pursue an internship and complete assessments online.

Why should I complete an industry placement? Industry placements (also called internships) are a great way to practise what you’ve learned, build on your skills and experience working life in a real-world setting. Through an internship, you can:

  • Improve your employability An internship offers specific industry experience and the opportunity to build your network in your chosen sector. This can give you a significant edge when seeking a job after graduation. In fact, many of the employers we work with hire former interns upon graduation or provide them with references, contacts and guidance.
  • Gain a global perspective An internship overseas comes with new experiences you would not be able to find at home. You can also build an international network, grow in understanding of different cultures and enhance your CV – all valuable assets in our increasingly connected world.
  • Make an impact As an intern, you will be given the chance to contribute towards key projects, support daily operations, identify new business opportunities and solve complex problems.
  • Grow in your field By taking what you’ve gained in the classroom and applying it in the workplace, you’ll internalise your learnings and gain a deeper understanding of your discipline.
  • Receive academic credit The BEW3110 is a 6-credit point unit that can be taken over the summer break, allowing you to reduce your course load during the semester so that you can focus more on other units.
