Credit transfer

Applications for credit can include credit transfer for previous study or recognition of prior learning.

The first three levels of the course provide a broad foundation in electrical and computer systems engineering and in sciences such as physics, chemistry and mathematics. At levels three and four, you'll complete core units and a management unit, and choose from a large number of electives which build upon material studied at earlier levels. Electives comprise approximately 37 per cent of levels three and four. The design and thesis projects at level three and four build self-reliance and planning capabilities in both individual and team-based environments. Projects are often related closely to the department’s exceptionally strong research and collaborative industry programs within its research centres.

Professional recognition

This degree is accredited by Engineers Australia and the Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia. It is also recognised by the Washington Accord, which means that our graduates can work in any other signatory country without the need to requalify.

The common first year

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) has a common first year, allowing you to experience a range of disciplines before deciding on a specialisation. You'll develop your foundational skills for engineering before deciding which of the six specialisations to pursue in your second year.

A multifaceted degree

Research and final-year projects are supported through four specialised labs where you can focus on the emerging areas of deep learning, Internet of things, intelligent lighting, and micro and nano devices.

Gain work experience

Work experience amplifies your learning and hones your hands-on skills. As part of your course, you'll complete a 12-week work placement after your third year. Our students have interned with companies such as ExxonMobil, Shell, Gamuda, IBM and more.

Kick-start your professional development

The Student Leaders Network program gives you the opportunity to engage with industry professionals through workshops, industry site visits, networking evenings, and a leadership summit over the course of a year. You'll develop critical leadership, teamwork and communication skills.

Join an engineering student club

Our student-run clubs lets you learn new skills and engage with industry to broaden your networks. You’ll get hands on with real-world projects and competitions as you work in multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative products or drive positive change.

Try your hand at research

Apply for the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program to experience a genuine research environment. You’ll learn from leading researchers and acquire knowledge and skills that’ll prepare you for your final year project and higher degree studies.

Volunteer with Engineers Without Borders

The Monash University Malaysia student chapter is involved in a wide range of projects benefiting local communities. Our students have helped to install a micro hydro generator for a school in Budok Aru, constructed a workshop for a shelter home, renovated refugee schools, and more.

As an electrical and computer systems engineer, you could work anywhere in the world and in a wide range of industries, including:

  • power generation
  • industrial and power electronics
  • automation
  • computer systems
  • robotics
  • healthcare
  • telecommunications
  • software engineering
  • semiconductor technology
  • technology consultancy
  • artificial intelligence.

Many Monash graduates work in large public and private telecommunications, manufacturing and electrical power companies. Others work for defence and intelligence organisations. You could also work in banking and finance, or with any organisation that creates, stores, encodes and transmits big data or manages complex systems.

To enter Monash University, students must satisfy particular academic, English language and age requirements.

Prerequisites

Mathematics (Australian Higher Year 12 equivalent) and at least one of Chemistry, Physics or Biology (Australian Year 12 equivalent) are formal prerequisites for the Bachelor of Engineering.

Courses with maths and science prerequisite subjects

If the course you are applying for requires maths and/or science as prerequisite subjects, you can meet the requirements in the following ways:

  • Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme: You must meet the maths and/or science prerequisite subject required for your chosen course as specified above.
  • Other qualifications recognised by Monash: If you have completed maths and/or science subjects in the relevant discipline at the required grade level, it is assumed that you have knowledge equivalent to the Australian Year 12 (VCE equivalent) prerequisite subject required for your chosen course. It is strongly recommended that you check that you have covered the assumed knowledge required for your course by completing the Assumed Knowledge Skills Analysis. This online activity includes multiple-choice questions based on your prior studies and helps you identify areas for revision, so you can start your course feeling confident and prepared. Once you accept your Monash offer and set up your student account you can complete the Assumed Knowledge Skills Analysis before starting your course.

These guidelines do not apply to the Bachelor of Medical Science or Doctor of Medicine.

"I’ve been in the railway industry for five years, and my Monash degree helps me to stand out among my peers because of my exposure to a variety of subjects such as power systems, telecommunications and signalling. It made my knowledge very relevant to today’s needs."
