About GIP

As a Monash student, an exchange semester at a Monash Australia campus is the easiest way to discover the world! While in Australia, you will:

  • continue to be enrolled at Monash Malaysia
  • receive credit for your overseas study towards your Monash degree
  • see your grades for all Monash units (including units studied at Monash University Australia) on your academic transcript
  • continue paying your regular fees to Monash Malaysia (in Malaysian Ringgit)

Am I eligible to apply?

Find out if you’re eligible, what the entry requirements are and how to apply here.

How do I enrol for GIP?

Most of you would have re-enrolled for the exchange semester during the re-enrolment period.

If your GIP application is approved, EMO will advise you on your enrolment prior to your scheduled GIP semester. You don’t have to discontinue your current enrolment on WES.

Important: You are not allowed to change approved units for enrolment except under extenuating circumstances.

How do I obtain my results?

The result release schedule for MUA follows a similar timeline to MUM, and your results will be automatically updated in the system. Once you have obtained your result, please confirm that your grades are reflected accurately. As these are Monash units, your grade will contribute to your WAM/GPA. Learn more about grading and exam results here.

What if I fail?

If you fail a unit and receive a failing grade, you won’t earn the credit point towards your GIP and will need to replace the failed credit point in MUM.

Industry Stream

Students can go for the Global Intercampus Program (GIP) in the final semester, but they have to ensure that they meet the pre-requisite of the Industry Experience unit by the commencement of exchange semester (72 credit points)

Important notes for students who want to do the FIT5120 and FIT5122 during semester 2 GIP

  • Please be reminded that you are required to pass this semester's units in order to enroll in those units and proceed with the GIP in Semester 2.
  • Due to the tight timelines between application deadlines and the date of result release, you are required to purchase the Overseas Student Health Cover and initiate the visa application process as well as secure accommodation in advance, but this is in anticipation of being able to travel to Australia for the GIP pending the outcome of the result release.
  • If it transpires on the date of the Semester 1 results release that you have failed units and did not meet the FIT5120 AND FIT5122 pre-requisite, you will need to cancel your participation in the GIP, which means that you have to withdraw from the GIP and continue to enroll as a Monash Malaysia student.
  • All costs incurred in applying for this program are most likely non-refundable or partially, at best, if your results are not favorable. If you wish to proceed with the application, please be mindful of the above.

Research Stream

Students can GIP in the 3rd semester and must transfer to Monash Australia in the following semester(final semester) to complete the Master's thesis.

Students will need to apply for the thesis via the Monash Australia application form. Details on eligibility, how to apply, and the deadlines can be found on Masters thesis webpage.

Note that students must have a project and supervisors organized prior to submitting their application.
