Entry requirements

Before you apply for Study Abroad you should check that you meet the following entry requirements:

  • You have completed at least one full year at your home institution by the time your program commences;
  • You have achieved one of at least a 60% overall average, or a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or a ‘C’ average in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), or the home institution equivalent;
  • You meet our minimum English language proficiency requirements;

If you are unsure if you meet all of the above requirements, please email your home university or agent for assistance.

Creating your study plan

You will need to choose 6 to 8 units per semester of study of exchange/study abroad for your study plan. This will allow you to have some back-ups and alternatives should any of your original choices become unavailable to you (e.g units not approved, unit discontinuations, clash in timetable, classes reached students' quotas, etc).

For restrictions and School-specific academic considerations, please refer to our How to Apply webpage.

If you wish to study at Monash Malaysia for two semesters, you should also list the second semester units in the study plan, for the purposes of the student pass (visa) application. If you wish to change the second semester units, approval for the revised second semester units can be organised at a later date nearer to the commencement of your second semester.

It is your responsibility to ensure that all units studied at Monash Malaysia will be accepted by your home institution for the purposes of credit transfer back to your course and that you meet all the pre-requisites for the Monash units you wish to enrol for.

The link to the Unit Handbook is available here.

Steps :

  1. Use the “Advanced Search” tool to set your preferred filters
  2. Click on “Units”
  3. In the left-hand menu, select “Location” and tick “Malaysia”
  4. In the same left-hand menu, select “Implementation Year” and tick the year you wish to study in
  5. In the same left-hand menu, select “Level” and tick whether Undergraduate or Postgraduate, depending on the level you are looking for
  6. In the same left-hand menu, select “Teaching Period” and tick "First Semester" or "Second Semester", depending on which Monash semester you wish to study with us. For Monash semester dates, please see here.

You should select units which are indicated as "Yes" to "Open to exchange or study abroad students?". You can refer to our Monash terminology webpage for an explanation of the terms used in the catalogue.

All exchange/study abroad students must be enrolled in a full-time load of on-campus units of minimum of 3 units and a maximum of 4 units (between 18 to 24 credit points).

Apply now

my.application is the online portal where students can digitally apply for a Study Abroad place at Monash University. The Inbound Student Applicant Guide has been developed to assist with the application process. Before you commence the process, you should read through this guide and have your supporting documents at hand.

Instead of submitting nominations, students attending Monash from partner institutions will have an application created by the partner, where they can complete the minimum information required or desired (e.g. some partners may choose to upload transcripts on behalf of students), before sending to you via the portal to complete and submit. Only students are able to complete and submit the application.

For Monash Australia students applying for an exchange to Monash Malaysia, this section does not apply to you. Please check the Global Intercampus Program webpage for application process and deadlines.

Fee-paying study abroad application process

my.application is the online portal where students can digitally apply for a study abroad place at Monash University at our Australian and Malaysian campuses.

There are two scenarios in which you will use this portal:

1. Your home institution or your agent, if you are using one, has nominated you for a study abroad (fee-paying) place at Monash. In this instance, the portal uses information submitted by your home institution/agent and pre-fills some parts of the application; or

2. You have decided to pursue study abroad at Monash independently because your home institution has no special arrangement with Monash to accept its students and you don’t have an agent.

If your home institution has a study abroad arrangement with Monash, you must speak to your home advisor before you apply using this method.

Students applying independently can submit their applications starting here; use the Inbound Student Applicant Guide for assistance.

If you have any questions about preparing your application, please email us at MUM.MonashAbroad@monash.edu
