The biomechanical engineering research cluster works on problems and devices to human motions, body structures, and brain function. The research interests of the cluster includes the:

(i) measurement and analysis of walking/movement among young and older adults

(ii) measurement and analysis of motor symptoms of neurological disorders such as tremor and postural instability

(iii) study on sports/ clinical biomechanics for physical injury detection and posture analysis

(iv) the design of intelligent and wearable sensors for human motion analysis

(v) Investigation of neural mechanisms underlying neurological and psychiatric disorders

The research cluster has managed to attract research grants from:

(i) Government Agencies:

- Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (Ministry of Education, Malaysia)

- E-Science (Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation, Malaysia)

(ii) Industry Partners: - Samsung Malaysia

The biomechanics research group oversees the following infrastructure:

(i) Qualysis Motion Capture System

(ii) 2x BERTEC Force Plate

(iii) APDM OPAL - Gen 2

(iv) BIOSIGNAL PLUX Electromyogram Kit

(v) 10m walkway for motion trials The research cluster is also actively involved in multi-disciplinary collaboration and projects, both internally and externally.
