Exchange and Study Abroad

Monash University offers various opportunities for you to participate in exchange and study abroad programs. These experiences are invaluable for broadening your worldview and exposing you to diverse cultures and ways of life. They also facilitate personal growth by helping you discover more about yourself while developing resilience and adaptability. Beyond being enjoyable, these experiences help you acquire valuable skills that enhance your employability.

Whether you are interested in studying at another Monash campus or at a partner university overseas, there are exchange opportunities to suit a variety of study plans and interests.

  • Exchange duration: One semester only.
  • Watch the exchange briefing via this LINK and read the Monash Abroad Presentation Slides LINK.
  • A2011 Bachelor of Digital Media and Communication (BDMC) students should note that there are no equivalent replacement units for AMU3580 and AMU2814 at the Monash Australia campus.
  • A2011 BDMC students may refer to this spreadsheet for comprehensive information on the availability of unit replacements at Monash University's Australia campus.
  • If you are an A2006 Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (BASS) student seeking assistance with Monash Australia unit replacements for your major or minor core units, please submit your enquiry via Ask.Mira. When submitting your enquiry, remember to include the link to your course map so that the Course Advisor can review your study plan and provide appropriate advice.

Important notes

  • Exchange duration: A minimum of one semester and a maximum of two semesters, depending on the student's course map.
  • Please note that you are only permitted to enrol in elective units during your exchange semester.
  • Watch the exchange briefing via this LINK and read the Monash Abroad Presentation Slides LINK.
  • A list of partner universities is available via this LINK.
  • You may refer to the SASS International Exchange Unit-Level Equivalency Database (by region) to assist you in identifying suitable elective units. Please read the instructions on the first tab carefully before selecting your units.

  • Please note that, upon successful completion of your international exchange program, your grades will not contribute to your Monash WAM or GPA. Instead, you will receive Monash credit points. Passed units will be recorded as SFR, while failed units will be recorded as NSR. You will also receive an academic transcript from the partner university.

Exchange Programs (EXC)

  • You will pay your tuition fees to Monash. All other associated program and administration fees are payable directly to the host institution.
  • During the program, you will be enrolled in Exchange unit codes (AEH).

Study Abroad Programs (ISA)

  • You are responsible for paying all associated fees, which are generally payable directly to the host institution.
  • During the program, you will be enrolled in Study Abroad unit codes (ASA).

  • Once you have identified the exchange program you wish to participate in, you should complete a course progression check before submitting your exchange application.This involves preparing a course map to ensure that you:This requirement applies to all international exchange programs.You can download the Course Map Template via this LINK. Please refer to the Student Course Progression Plan Template section and select the template for your course.We recommend downloading the course map by selecting File > Make a copy. Once you have completed your course map, please remember to grant edit access to nurul.farahin@monash.edu. We will review your course map and provide feedback once we receive it.If you are unfamiliar with course mapping, please refer to our self-help guides.
  • To make planning easier, we recommend preparing your exchange study plan as early as Year 1. Early planning helps preserve elective space for your future exchange semester.
