The Peer Student Supporter (PSS) is an initiative by CHW, in creating a supportive community at Monash.
You don't need to be an expert to be a friend. Join the team and be there for someone in need of a listening ear. PSS will be equipped with the necessary basic helping skills to befriend and support their peers who are in need and guide them to the appropriate help and resources available. Role of a Peer Supporter:
- To provide peer support on campus for students
- To organise outreach and wellness projects and events to promote self-care and community-care
- To guide peers to the appropriate help and resources available on campus
Attendance Requirement for Peer Student Supporter:
To become an official Peer Supporter and make a meaningful impact in our community, participants are required to attend all four training modules.
Module of Training:
- Introduction to Peer Support, understanding your roles, boundaries and ethical issues
- Understanding of mental health disorders
- Psychological First Aid
- Basic peer helping skills and listening techniques
