Dreaming of your moment in the spotlight where you stride across the stage and doff your cap at the Chancellor? A graduation ceremony will fulfil that dream. And an on-stage photo will capture the moment.
Your faculty’s graduation ceremony is a formal occasion to celebrate your achievement with family and friends, who can either come along as ticketed guests or view a livestream from home. If you choose this option, you’ll have a very exciting celebration. Dressed in your graduation gown, having your achievements recognised in front of your peers and loved ones – this is a day you’ll always remember.
Before the ceremony, we invite you and your guests to enjoy refreshments at the welcome reception.
A typical ceremony schedule
Allow approximately five to six hours for your graduation day.

Location The graduation ceremony takes place at the prestigious Robert Blackwood Hall. Afterwards, we’ll serve refreshments on the beautiful Forum Lawns next to the hall, so you can network and celebrate with your peers and guests after graduating. Clayton campus
Academic dress One of the highlights of graduation day is wearing a graduation gown, hood and trencher cap. Staff will be there to help you gown up and look just right! Check our academic dress page to see what you’ll wear.
Guests, tickets and fee The ceremony attendance fee covers your ticket, two guest tickets, hire of your academic dress (cap and gown), and refreshments after the ceremony for you and your guests.
Photography Professional photographers will be available before and after the ceremony to capture you and your family celebrating this very important occasion. Images are uploaded to a private web gallery for viewing and purchase.
Dress code
As your graduation is a formal event, best to dress as if you’re attending a business interview. Your graduation gown is three-quarter length and draped at the front, so keep in mind that your clothing will show underneath. Also make sure to wear footwear suitable for going up and down a few flights of stairs.
Parents with children Children under one can come along free of charge, but each child must be seated on the lap of a guest who can supervise them. Children one and older will need a ticket to attend a ceremony. You can't take prams into the Robert Blackwood Hall, but you can leave them in the space set aside in the foyer. There’s another option for children that you may want to consider. We’re live-streaming the ceremonies, which can be viewed either from home or on the large screen at the Northern Plaza in the Graduation Precinct (tickets may be required for the Northern Plaza).
Visa travel applications You can use the emails we’ve sent you confirming your graduation date to support visa applications for you or your guests. The emails are sent approximately seven weeks before the event, so if you need evidence to support visa applications earlier, contact Monash Connect.
