Results – reading your marks This table outlines the Monash grading system, providing a key to results on the academic record (transcript) according to the year of study. This allowed students to exclude eligible units from their GPA/CGPA and WAM calculations by applying NSR to failed units and SFR to units with a passing grade. Masters awarded with distinction From 6 October 2021, students graduating with a master’s degree by coursework with a WAM of 80 or above will see Awarded with distinction on their official academic record (transcript), award certificate (testamur) and Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS). Credit 60–69 You’ve demonstrated fundamental knowledge, skills and attributes at a proficient level, showing fluency in concepts. Pass 50–59 Satisfactory. You’ve demonstrated fundamental knowledge, skills and attributes at a satisfactory level. Fail 0–49 You lack satisfactory demonstration of fundamental knowledge, skills and expected attributes. Hurdle Fail 45 This grade means you didn't satisfactorily complete all hurdle requirements but would have otherwise achieved a mark of 45 or above in the unit. Deferred Assessment You’ve been granted a deferred assessment, resulting from your special consideration application. A deferred assessment is an assessment postponed to a later date. These are held: during the official deferred assessment period or at a time determined by your faculty. They will email your Monash account with the details, giving you at least five University working days' notice. Exempt NEED DESCRIPTION Faculty Pass NEED DESCRIPTION Merit NEED DESCRIPTION Not Applicable NEED DESCRIPTION Not Assessed This grade is used to finalise a unit undertaken on a non-assessed, non-award basis. Not Examinable NEED DESCRIPTION NGO (Fail) You haven’t fulfilled the unit requirements. PGO (Pass) You’ve fulfilled the unit requirements. Supplementary Assessment You've been granted a supplementary assessment. Not Satisfied Requirements A fail grade used for study abroad, exchange, and complementary study units when Monash has not taught and assessed the unit. The mark provided by the other institution is not recorded. NSR was also used in eligible teaching periods during 2020–2021 to allow students to exclude failed units from their GPA/CGPA and WAM calculations. Pass Grade Only (no higher grade available) NEED DESCRIPTION Satisfied Faculty Requirements A pass grade used for study abroad, exchange, and complementary study units when Monash has not taught and assessed the unit. The mark provided by the other institution is not recorded. SFR was also used in eligible teaching periods during 2020–2021 to allow students to exclude units with a passing grade from their GPA/CGPA and WAM calculations. This was in recognition of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their studies. Withdrawn You withdrew from this unit after the census date and before the Withdrawn Fail period . The WDN grade is not a pass grade, because the unit requirements have not been completed. This grade is not included in the WAM or GPA. Withheld The assessment marking is incomplete and a final grade has not yet been determined. This could be because: you have an extension to finish outstanding assessment tasks you haven’t finished all your assessments the host institution for your Study Abroad or complementary units hasn't yet submitted your results from your time overseas you have a pending academic misconduct investigation your assessment is still being marked and your final unit result will be updated shortly. Withdrawn Incomplete This grade used to be awarded based on extreme circumstances, occuring or taking effect after the Withdrawn Fail period. The WI grade was not a passing grade because it meant you hadn’t completed the requirements of the unit. This grade is not included in GPA or WAM calculations and only applied to units that started before 22 July 2024. Students are no longer awarded Withdrawn Incomplete grades. Withdrawn Fail You withdrew from this unit between the start of the Withdrawn Fail period and the end of the teaching period. Got a question?
