Ready for a new opportunity?
As a Community Adviser, you can ignite your leadership spark and create real change. Advisers become mentors, role models and peer supporters to our community members. You have the power to inspire other students – particularly first-year students – in finding their voice and purpose at Monash.
Through this role you can continue your own learning, not just from textbooks but from lived experiences. As you support members you will grow in empathy, emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
You’ll face challenges in this role for sure – maybe it’s managing competing priorities, or situations without simple solutions, or conversations that feel uncomfortable. But it is in discomfort that real growth happens. The staff working within our student community groups are there to support you as you carry out the role. Through courage and compassion, you can transform these challenges into opportunities. If you hear a calling towards leadership, community and personal growth, then apply to be a Community Adviser. Know that you already have the abilities within, all you need is the opportunity to lead.
About the role
Advisers are highly valued members of our support teams, reporting directly to the Community Coordinator.
The role is for 12 months, running from January to December. During this time, advisers volunteer for approximately 10 hours a fortnight. Responsibilities include:
- providing mentoring and support for up to 15 community members
- assisting with and attending community events
- participating in training and development opportunities
- liaising with the community support team.

- develop your interpersonal and self-management skills by organising regular community events with fellow advisers
