Curating: Making Exhibitions is intended as a complement to Curating: Histories and Theories in which you can begin to put your studies into practice and engage with key aspects of exhibition making. Through field trips and guest speakers, you will gain insight into how Melbourne’s art ecosystem operates, and explore case studies in innovative and critical curatorial practices. You will gain experience in developing an exhibition project, and will have the opportunity to engage with practicing artists and original works of art.

Learning outcomes
- Recognise and demonstrate respect for indigenous knowledge, culture, and values and their relationship to contemporary curatorial practice;
- Identify and evaluate theoretical questions relevant to contemporary curatorship;
- Outline and describe key roles, institutions and practices in the contemporary art ecology;
- Identify and apply key practical considerations involved in curating an exhibition;
- Critically analyse and interpret exhibitions verbally and in a written format;
- Apply historical and theoretical ideas in the justification of a curatorial project.
Workload
12 hours per week including 4 contact hours plus 8 hours of independent study, or equivalent.
